Carcinophobia and Hypnosis
The fear of cancer, also known as carcinophobia, is one of the top ten most widespread phobias, and it is easy to see why. Nobody wants to suffer from cancer or see a loved one suffering from it. Although we all dread getting sick, people with carcinophobia experience an irrational amount of fear that sometimes controls their lives. Beating the fear of cancer used to take a long time, but with more knowledge of the phobia and improved treatments, this has changed. Proven hypnosis techniques can help people reclaim their health and happiness.
It isn’t hard to see what might lead to carcinophobia. This phobia is linked to a fear of death, illness, and loss of control. Many people feel disturbed by a loved one’s struggle with cancer. Those who have lost a family member to cancer, or face the threat of the disease, live in fear of the day when they develop the disease.
The uncontrollable anxiety created by the fear of cancer can lead people to make illogical decisions. Some sufferers constantly visit hospitals to confirm they are not sick, while others avoid the doctor altogether, afraid of discovering that they have an illness. Cancer phobia sufferers will become worried if they feel the slightest signs of poor health, such as a muscle ache, and wonder if it’s cancer. They might go to great lengths to avoid becoming ill.
Those with a fear of cancer often believe they have much to fear. It is a persistent feeling that can strike both genders. A person might worry, “Who will provide for the family if I get cancer?” or dwell on other important issues. The phobia can be terribly sad for sufferers and their loved ones.
Some people can “control” their phobias by avoiding the cause of their worry. Those with arachnophobia can often get along by avoiding spiders, and people with claustrophobia are careful to avoid small, confined spaces such as closets. Cancer phobia, however, is not the same. The phobia is triggered by a person’s deepest ideas and fears. It can be crippling for an individual to suffer from a fear they just can’t avoid. This puts most people with the phobia in a chronic state of anxiety.
There are many different phobia treatments available. Frequently used ones include talk therapy and anti-anxiety drugs. Traditional counseling can generate good results, but it often takes a long time, up to many months for some people. Medication works to lessen a person’s nervousness, but it fails to fix the underlying causes of a deep-rooted fear. Hypnosis is an option that delivers permanent results in a shorter period of time than other treatments. Hypnosis has become a leading choice because it is a safe, non-invasive, and effective choice of treatment.
Hypnosis combines anxiety-relief practices with fear dissociation to quickly cure a phobia. A good program will start with relaxation therapy to help relieve the emotional anxiety caused by fear. When a person feels calm and at ease, hypnosis and Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) techniques can guide the unconscious mind into adopting a phobia-free thought process.
Conventional hypnotherapy utilizes direct, post-hypnotic suggestions to cure a phobia. It’s very helpful when an individual is receptive to it. Unfortunately, these conventional techniques may not work because most people are inclined to question direct suggestions and reject direct suggestions.
A deeply rooted phobia such as cancer phobia requires a more advanced form of treatment such as Ericksonian hypnosis. This form of hypnotherapy works best for people who tend to be independent thinkers, and who are suffering from chronic anxiety and fear. It utilizes indirect suggestions in stories, metaphors, and conversations to help them overcome their fears.
NLP technology doesn’t rely on suggestion at all, so it can be effective for everybody. A simplified explanation is that NLP offers strategies to train the unconscious mind to use the same exact thought patterns that are causing a symptom or fear, to extinguish it.
Since hypnosis and NLP operate at the unconscious level of the mind, users describe feeling more in control and comfortable using these types of therapy.
With Conventional Hypnosis, programs typically must be specific to each phobia. An additional benefit of a properly designed Ericksonian hypnosis therapy and NLP program is that they are designed to be used on any phobia, or even several phobias. This can be a great benefit to some carcinophobia sufferers who also suffer from other anxiety disorders, such as general germophobia or hypochondria.
The fear of cancer is a serious phobia, but it can be tackled by appropriate hypnosis techniques. NLP techniques are a popular phobia therapy because of their effectiveness at addressing the underlying cause of all panic disorders and not just the signs and symptoms. Novel Ericksonian hypnosis and NLP techniques can help even the most severe phobia sufferers vanquish their fears once and for all.
